The East Kootenay Invasive Plant Council (EKIPC) is a registered non-profit society whose mission is to reduce and minimize the negative environmental, social and economic impacts caused by the introduction, establishment and spread of invasive alien plant species in the East Kootenay region. Our objective is to coordinate an integrated invasive plant management program on all lands in the East Kootenay region, through the development of partnerships and support of all stakeholders including local, regional, provincial and federal governments, First Nations, non government organizations, industry, private landowners and occupiers of crown lands.
“Weeds and Roads and Water and YOU” offers an exciting Keynote speaker: Al Planiden, Manager of Roadside Development with Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure who will discuss “Roads and Weeds”. Other speakers include Crystal Klym with the Invasive Plant Council of BC joins us to speak of “Weeds and Water”. A final thought provoking discussion will be led by Ann Eastman, Manager of Emerging Sectors working in the Innovation and Climate Action Branch of Ministry of Agriculture and Lands who will speak to us regarding invasive plants and bio-fuels.
There will be a nominal fee of $5.00 collected at the door to cover a portion of conference costs. Lunch will be provided, thanks to our GOLD and SILVER sponsors!! Five director terms are expiring and we will be accepting nominations for re-election or new directors for two year terms. Commitments are 10-12 monthly meetings five hours in length and participating in various committees. If you are passionate about weeds and wish to make a difference, please allow your name to be put forward.
